Koopman's greenest truck

'We are proud to say that we are driving a fully electric truck! At the beginning of this year, Koopman started using the first MAN eTGM that will be used for distribution work in the Netherlands. The electric truck will be used for distribution of parts and accessories of various car brands.

A great start in the field of the electric truck revolution. In 2025, Transport en Logistiek Nederland would like to see new trucks with zero CO2 emissions driving through Dutch city centres. Freight transport will then be electric, with trucks and vans running on batteries or hydrogen tanks. Outside of that, they want as little CO2 emissions as possible. The use of the eTGM is a nice initiative, in line with the zero emission era in urban logistics. The project is an initiative of Koopman in cooperation with Man Truck & Bus and Pon Logistics. Wouter Renkema, Manager of Fleet and Workshops: 'We can drive into town centres with ease because the electric truck is smaller, lighter and more manoeuvrable than large trucks. The awareness of the CO2 footprint leads to initiatives like this. A nice addition to the sustainability journey that Koopman is on.

Wouter Renkema, Manager Fleet and Workshops: 'The project was more than just a truck. In addition to the many advantages of an electric truck, there are still many opportunities to be gained to make the use of an electric truck easier. Think of purchase costs and charging infrastructure. For example, we looked at how the truck could be planned optimally, taking into account the load-discharge-charge cycles. It's not just about loading the goods, but also about charging the truck. The sale of electric trucks is slowly but surely gaining momentum, but the charging infrastructure is not yet prepared for this. This eTGM has a range of about 200 km, which is ideal for the journeys it is currently used for. Because we have the right charging facilities for the journey, the charging time is only one hour.'

Sustainability in logistics and transport

The logistics sector is facing a major challenge: in 2050, transport and logistics must become at least six times more efficient. To realize these climate objectives, logistical innovations and the use of technical innovations such as fuel-efficient vehicles and alternative fuels are badly needed. Koopman shows that the logistics sector and eye for the planet go hand in hand. Since 2018, Koopman has already started delivering in the city centre with a fully electric delivery truck. Through data-driven analyses, continuous steps are taken to minimize the impact on the environment. Together with customers, innovative solutions are developed that add value to an optimal logistics chain. In the choices that are made, the impact on people and the environment is always taken into account.
